William Ford Gibson

William Ford Gibson

  • Born 1948 in Conway, South Carolina, United States
  • Lives in Vancouver, Canada
  • Writes cyberpunk

William Gibson is a prominent cyberpunk author, often mentioned together with other giants of the genre such as Bruce Sterling or Neal Stephenson. He is also credited with the first use of the word "cyberspace", describing the virtual world of computer networks. He won the Hugo and Nebula awards for Neuromancer.

Contradicting what one would expect of a cyberpunk author, William Gibson insists he has little technical knowledge as far as computer and networks are concerned - his technology visions are allegedly inspired by video games, and Neuromancer was not even written on a computer (shocking, isn't it ? :-).
