The book follows the life of Jirel of Joiry, a mystical heroine that would probably fit best somewhere in the medieval Europe. In five relatively separate stories, Except for the second story, Jirel simply battles villains who would take either her or her fiefdom, simple and straight. |

The feeling I get from the book is that of a pretty cover with nothing inside. The text is full of flowery descriptions, but somehow they feel empty, devoid of emotions. Scenes that would normally make for a mysterious and wondrous sight are giving off the same impression as a bad theatre set would, ignored less they totally spoil the story.
And speaking of the story, there's not much of that in the book either. With the possible exception of the last one, the stories are about as thrilling as a regular afternoon walk with a dog. No sense of anticipation, no suspense, everything just happens. Rated bad, the book is really something I would not consider reading twice.
