The forces of nature are unpredictable (especially when magic is one of them). As it happens, those of Discworld gave rise to an entirely new island in the Circle Sea, just about halfway between Ankh-Morpork and Al-Khali.

On the opposite end of the predictability spectrum, however, are the Discworld people. As soon as the island appears, the residents of both Ankh-Morpork and Al-Khali go out of their way to prove that it is rightfully theirs.

The tension escalates quickly and both cities are soon ready to go to war over the bare island. The only person that seems to see the madness of the entire situation is Commander Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch, and he is quickly demoted by the warthirsty nobles ...

Review

One of the Discworld books that I enjoyed a lot was Men At Arms. Jingo is almost as good at times, sporting the disarming directness of Corporal Carrot, the subtle intrigues of Ankh-Morpork Patrician, the equivocal assurances (EH, ASSURANCES ?) of Death, and more. It certainly is a refreshing read, rating at good with me.
