It all begins when the Librarian of the famous Unseen University of Ankh-Morpork catches a flu. And as if a normal flu was not annoying enough, this particular case of flu has an unusual extra effect on the Librarian - it is attacking his morphic fields. (The exact words of an authority on the subject, the Lecturer in Recent Runes himself. For mere humans, the effect can be described as changing shape when one sneezes.)

Naturally, this is a problem for everyone at the Unseen University, for what is the University without the Library, and what is the Library without the Librarian. (Besides, nobody except the Librarian dares enter the Library, some of the grimoires in there are downright wicked.) After a careful deliberation, the wizards decide to cure the Librarian using magic, except it turns out that nobody knows his name, an essential component to the spell.

Nobody, that is, except Rincewind, who at that time is enjoying his meal with lots of vitamins, valuable protein and essential fats (no mention of wriggling at all) in the middle of a desert in EcksEcksEcksEcks (a lost continent he was sent to through a trivial error in bilocational thaumaturgy that anyone could make). His exile is to end soon, however, for a rescue mission lead by Archchancellor Ridcully himself is on its way ...

Review

If you know other Discworld books, you know what to expect from this one - intelligent humor picking on everyone and everything. And you will not be disappointed - amazingly, Terry Pratchett does not seem to run out of inspiration even in an unbelievable 22nd instalment of the series. As a die hard fan of Rincewind, I felt somewhat disappointed by his sudden shift from pragmatic to cowardly, but then again, it is still Rincewind :-) stable Discworld rating of good applies.
