A short retrospective story about what can happen when an impractical scientist dies, leaving the most dangerous of his inventions to a bunch of his neglected children. Satiric.

Review

Perhaps it's just that I do not live in the States and thus cannot appreciate the nuances of Kurt Vonnegut's humor. I found the book boring and the jokes rather gross, feeling as if the author had to drive his points home with a hammer. Naturally, the comments on the book's cover state that it is "Vonnegut's most accomplished novel" and "one of this century's most important works" - overstated a bit more than usual I'd say.
